My favicon showed up!

Hurray! As soon as I posted that my new favicon didn't show up on Ruth Sackheim, the favicon showed up! I guess that's the trick.

Navbar and Favicon

I removed the navbar from Check-In Buddy, Ruth Sackheim, and Sackheim Group Portfolio. I changed the generic icon to a favicon on Check-In Buddy and Sackheim Group Portfolio, but for some reason the favicon I added to Ruth Sackheim won't show up. I've tried both jpeg and ico.

Another Comment

I thoroughly enjoyed your aptly titled art show.  I loved your interpretation of Chicago Chicago is a vibrant city and, for me, that was the theme of your art.   You went beyond the city's drab concrete hues of grays, browns, rust, and blues to make the city alive and strikingly vibrant. I thought it was beautiful. Your show didn't disappoint. Good Luck as it continues!  -- Cynthia Searcy

Comments about "Historic Chicago Re-Imagined"

Ruth's work comes from the heart of a true Chicagoan, who translates her love of the city she grew up in into art that will fit well into a variety of settings!

I will need to return to Chicago to view the city in person, guided by Ruth's wonderfully stylized reconceptions. The juxtaposition of the two views should be stunning and instructive.

Ruth Sackheim's art brings a wonderful richness and depth to the architecture of Chicago. Her work brings new life to the subject structures and brings them from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

My upcoming show is part of Chicago Artists Month 2011

My upcoming show, "Historic Chicago Re-Imagined," is part of Chicago Artists Month 2011, which is presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture. The art will be on exhibit at the Belmont Art Gallery, 3170 N. Sheridan, Chicago, IL, through November 30. Please stop by and see my new work.

Get ready to re-imagine Chicago’s architectural structures built during the Victorian Era. See how artist Ruth Sackheim uses bold color, traditional media, and digital media to transform, yet pay homage to, well-known and lesser-known sights in and near the heart of the city. Experience a modern take on Alta Vista Terrace, nicknamed the “Street of Forty Doors,” and the El, which has been called both “Chicago’s Eiffel Tower” and “Chicago’s Railroad in the Sky.” Consider how the places that transformed Chicago over one hundred years ago impact our dreams and emotions today.

The Nitty-Gritty Part of Art

I've spent the last few days figuring out how to wrap the art and transport it to my show. I bought a luggage cart and a large Rubber Maid tub, but the tub was too wide for the elevator door and the cart bumped over the cracks in the sidewalk. I bought bubble wrap and twine but found out that it was going to be very expensive to wrap the pieces.

On Sunday, I went to an art fair and saw that the artists wrapped their work in blankets, towels, or specially-made covers that fit over the framed work. I also saw various kinds of dollies in use. Most had very narrow shelves so it’s hard to imagine how I could transport very many pieces at once.

Next, I began attaching hanging wire. I started with 24 gauge wire, which the man at the hardware store told me would be strong enough. I was skeptical and began twisting the wire so it would better hold the weight of each piece. Finally, I decided that I needed heavier wire.

I plan to return the luggage cart and tub I bought at the hardware store and buy some thicker hanging wire there. Then it’s off to Home Depot for a dolly. I may buy a strap of some sort to secure the art to the cart. Next, I’ll decide whether to use towels to wrap the art. Placing the wrapped art in large garbage bags seems like a good way to keep the towels clean.

Turquoise Box - What do you think this is?

I saw this turquoise metal box affixed to the outside of a building and wondered what it was. It isn't a mailbox. Could there be some kind of wiring inside? Has anyone ever seen one of these before? It looks fairly old.

Test Print Disaster

Tonight's test print was a disaster. The entire image was printed with white bands running through it, an obvious printer error. I'm going to have a find a place that makes good prints consistently. Also, I'm going to shop for a digital SLR and see how a new camera affects my images. Onward and upward.

Show Progress

I bought another frame and had an image printed. I'm checking out additional places to have images printed. I'm looking for a place that can print images 11" X14" and larger from Photoshop files.

Art Display Trends

I went to the River North Galleries tonight and noticed something different--artwork unframed and attached to the wall with magnets. It's very expensive for an artist to frame work and often an art buyer wants a different frame. Displaying art unframed lowers both the cost to the artist and the purchase price. Also, the gallery owner can offer more affordable work and thus continue to be profitable in this tough economy.

Pageviews in Spain and etc.

I think this is the first time this blog has been viewed in Spain!

I'm hard at work creating images for my October show. The weather last week was nice, so I took the opportunity to go out with my camera and photograph the El near Wrigley Field. Those warm days are now a distant memory. It's been so cold and rainy the last two days, and tonight it will be in the 30s. I'm looking forward to some nice weather so I can get out with my camera again.

Watercolor Flowers

I spent the day working on a small brightly-colored watercolor of flowers. I'm not used to working with watercolor and I'm not really satisfied with the results. I think a bit of learning is in order if I decide to go ahead with this medium.

Color Matching

I am trying to match the colors on a new print to the colors I was able to get with a different printer. Difficult. I've made several test prints so far and I hope I can get closer to the original.

Such a face

This is a friend's doggie. What a great face. Ya gotta either love it or at least smile when you see it. Why don't we think that people look adorable when they have big bodies and droopy skin, and teeth that stick out, and spots on their mugs?

Pastel Paper Size vs. Mat and Frame Sizes

Since I've been creating art on 19" X 25" pastel paper, I thought I'd check to see if there were corresponding standard mat and frame sizes.  I was delighted to find that this particular size paper fits perfectly into a 24” X 30” frame and 24” X 30” mat with a 19” X 25” mat opening. The challenge is to find a standard mat this size.

New Oil Pastel Landscape

I just finished an oil pastel landscape on 19" X 24" raw sienna Mi-Tientes paper. The style and subject matter are new for me. When I get the camera charger I ordered, I will photograph the image and post it--that is if I don't need a new battery, too!

Free Wi-Fi Zone in Chicago

North Halsted from Belmont to Grace and North Broadway from Grace to Irving Park are now a free public Wi-Fi Zone. The zone, which is an initiative of the Northalsted Business Alliance, has been live for a little over a week. The connection shows up as “Northalsted Public WiFi.” Now if there were just free parking to go with the free Wi-Fi!
